I am a 27 year old photographer and filmmaker with over six years of training and experience behind a camera in different roles.
As a neurodiverse filmmaker I am captivated by the emotion in film and our drive to make them. When joining a project I understand the emotional motivation we often have for our work, and will find a way to empathise with the director and connect to their vision.
I studied my undergraduate degree in Creative & Professional Writing and Film Studies and went on to study my postgraduate Masters degree at Sheffield Hallam University in Filmmaking, where my focus was camera operation, and achieved a distinction.
My feature film pitch 'Red Velvet Time Machine' was selected as a Finalist in the South East Regional Film Festival, and my short film Knots Untie has screened at a selection of local film events.
I curated the Black Bird Film Festival which ran for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019, and raised money for The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and Crisis, respectively.
I am currently working on a research proposal for my PHD application to the University of Birmingham and seeking paid or voluntary entry level roles on professional TV and film productions, or DOP/camera operator positions on student and micro budget productions.

PRAISE & REVIEWS
Knots Untie
“Hackett’s story here is one that is clearly deeply personal to her, but it’s one that has a lot of touches that have the potential to reach out to anyone who takes the time out of their day to watch it, which is where I believe it’s greatest strengths lie.” - Midlands Movies
Jay Bird
“For all its impeccable black and white aesthetic, is keen to broaden the viewer’s colour scheme when it comes to our rigid perceptions of people.” - Movie Marker
“Hackett writes and creates her characters with care, showing each character’s flaws alongside their strengths. With a great score, rich characters and a unique look, Jay Bird is worth checking out.” - Midland Movies
